Discover the peaceful Queyrasian valleys!

Departing from Prat Hauts, enjoy a day in the wild landscapes of Queyras, snowshoeing!
The snowshoe is perfect to discover local nature and built heritage of the Alps. At noon, your guide will find you unusual location to share a picnic in bright sunlight, around a campfire or in a montain hut to keep you warm. Slowly and one by one, each valley will reveal itself and if we're lucky some chamois or some deers will appear in the immaculate whiteness. Back in the chalet, you'll enjoy the reading salon, screenings and spa. When it comes to eat, food is generous, everything is prepared from local farm products. This a cosy journey in nature, with powder snow for everyone!

Day 1

WELCOMING AND DEBRIEF WITH YOUR GUIDE
Welcome from 4 p.m. at the chalet La Vie Sauvage in Prats Hauts. In the evening, during the welcome drink, debrief with your guide and then dinner. For those arriving by train, a free shuttle, on reservation, will pick you up at 6.30pm at Montdauphin - Guillestre station.

Day 2

VALPRÉVEYRE - LE VALLON D'URINE
To the bottom of the Guil valley for a first day into the "wild Queyras". Departing from the small hamlet of Roux, climbing up the valley dominated by the bric Bouchet ... enchanting atmosphere along a torrent where you should come across deer and chamois, looking for unfrozen water. Return to Roux through the hamlets of Pra Roubaud, flanked on the southern slopes.
5.5 hour walk / Elevation : + 550m ; - 550m

Day 3

CHALET DE CLAPEYTO - COL DE LA ROUSSE
The Clapeyto pasture, nestled at the foot of the Izoard pass, is an enchanting place where calm reigns in the middle of these small mountain chalets. In this peaceful atmosphere, progression through the small hamlets full of history. Depending on the conditions, return via the Col de la Rousse, where we should come across animals. Possibility to visit the craftsmen's house before returning to the chalet.
4.5 hour walk / Elevation : +/- 450m

Day 4

LES CRÊTES DE GLAISETTES - LE LAC DE ROUE
Departing from the small pastoral hamlet of Souliers, ascend through the valley of Col Tronchet, nestled at the foot of the peak of Rochebrune. From the pass, a magnificent panorama opens up over the Izoard valley as well as the Font Sancte massif. On a wide ridge, descent facing the sun to Lac de Roue (frozen in winter). Return to Souliers. In the evening, Jacuzzi, hammam and sauna to continue this beautiful day in the heat. 
5.5 hour walk / Elevation : +650m ; - 650m

Day 5

FONTOUSE PASS
Departing from Arvieux, this little valley will fill lovers of virgin spaces with happiness. The route, at the start a little steep, becomes softer and widens little by little to offer a beautiful panorama.In this wild valley, you may come across a mouflon or chamois numbed by the harshness of winter. 
4.5 hour walk / elevation : +/- 750 m

Day 6

MINI RAID AT REFUGE DE LA BLANCHE
Departure for a 2-day trek in the high mountains, in complete safety, in a comfortable refuge at the foot of the Italian border. From Aigue Agnel, easy climb up to the high peaks on the border with Italy. In the middle of the great outdoors, towards a mountain refuge wedged at the foot of the Tête des Toilies. The Longet pass, at an altitude of over 2,700 m, a crossing point between Aigue Blanche and Aigue Agnel offers a great panorama of the two valleys.

Day 7

SAINT-VÉRAN
Early departure for the emblematic village of Queyras: Saint-Véran. An easy descent in this wide sunny valley where you may come across a herd of chamois. Crossing the village, before taking a last picnic in this idyllic setting. A logistician will then bring your luggage to Saint-Véran so that you can take the 1 p.m. shuttle to Montdauphin-Guillestre station (for those returning by train). If you came by car, we will take you back to Prats-Hauts.

 

The guide and the agency can decide at any time to modify or interrupt the circuit or certain stages for reasons of safety or availability, in particular for the night in a refuge.

The trip

LEVEL **

Elevation : between 600m to 850m.
Walking time : in average 5 to 6.5 hours per day. Forest tracks and trails.
The tour has been created with our local partners who are very mindful about organising an authentic journey. 

GUIDING 

Group between 4 and 15 people supervised by a qualified montain leader. 

ACCOMMODATION

At La Vie Sauvage's chalet, a large house intended for 35 people max to live together with all the comfort required. Rooms with 1,2,3 or 4 beds, each with a shower, a sink and a WC (extra cost of 65€/ pers. for rooms with 2 beds, + 90€ for single room, depending on availability). A friendly area with a bar, music and boards games invites you to relax. The dining room has a huge chimney and there is a TV salon and a terrace. Parking available nearby. The spa is opened 2 days a week and is included in your stay. In option, massage and plantar reflexology.

MEALS

Hearty meals are provided by the chalet. Products come from local farms and from the family's farm. Homemade pastries and fresh juices. Wine and infusions are included in the meal. Lunch picnic is made of local products as well. 

Practical information

ACCESS TO DEPARTURE POINT 

Welcoming from 4.30pm at La Vie Sauvage accomodation in Prats Hauts (Queyras), brefing with your guide before dinner. For those arriving by train, a private shuttle will pick you up from the train station at 6.30 p.m. (booking required).

BY CAR

From the North:

1st possibility: Take the Lautaret pass through Bourg d'Oisans and the Grave. Join Briançon and follow direction Gap (RN 94) until Montdauphin then Guillestre, gateway to the Queyras Regional Park.
2nd possibility: from Grenoble by the Mure and Gap. Then follow the direction Embrun by the RN 94 then Guillestre gateway to the Queyras Regional Park. Take the D902 then follow the signs «Stations du Queyras».
3rd possibility: From Grenoble stay on the A51 motorway towards Sisteron. Cross the Lus-la-Croix-Haute pass, then join Veyne, Gap. Then follow the direction Embrun by the RN94 then Guillestre entrance gate of the Queyras Regional Park. Take the D902 then follow the signs «Stations du Queyras».
4th possibility: By Chambéry – Autoroute de la Maurienne -Tunnel du Fréjus (at the toll take a round trip valid for 7 days).

At the toll at the exit of the Italian side tunnel, continue on the motorway towards Turin. Exit at Oulx and take direction Cesana – Sestriere - Col de Montgenèvre/Francia. From the Col de Montgenèvre (border) you reach Briançon then Guillestre (1 h 30 min drive from the tunnel).

From the south:

Valencia or Sisteron - Gap - Embrun - Guillestre.
From Guillestre, follow the direction «Queyras» (D 902), then the D 947.

In order to plan your trip, we advise you to inquire about your itinerary at the various sites: viamichelin and mappy
Attention: the passes of Izoard, Agnel and Galibier are closed in winter. Some sites or GPS plan to get you there, but access is completely impossible. Similarly, do not take the options through the Fréjus and Oulx tunnel which are much longer and very expensive. Inquire about the state of the road of the pass at 04 92 24 44 44 (answering machine).

Parking: Tourist Office of Ville Vieille (in front of the gas station). Call us for you that we transfer you to the accommodation (shuttle at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm).

Equipment & baggage

EQUIPMENT LIST

Material for snowshoeing (snowshoes and poles) is provided. However, if you have your own and would like to use them you are free to do so. Avalanche safety equipment including (transceiver, shovel and probe) is also provided.

Clothing

- Waterproof ski or winter walking trousers
Wind stopper or Goretex jacket
- Breathable or merino wool t-shirts
- Breathable or merino wool leggings
- Fleece or jumper
- Insulating down jacket
- 2 pairs of ski gloves and a warm hat
- Walking socks (1 pair per day)
- Sturdy waterproof walking boots

Other Equipment

- Rucksack minimum 35 litre capacity
- Sunglasses and ski mask
- Sun cream
- Water bottle or Camelback (1.5 litre minimum)
- Knife, fork and spoon
- Plastic lunch box/plate for your picnic lunches
- Plastic cup for coffee
- Small First Aid kit (antihistamine, ibuprofen, Compeed type blister pads...)
- Survival blanket
- Identity card or passport 

LUGGAGE TRANSPORT

You must pack all of your belongings in 2 bags: 1 backpack for the day and 1 travel bag.
The backpack:
Hiking backpack of about 35 liters, it will be useful for transporting your personal belongings during the day (warm clothes, water bottle, picnic, sun protection, identity papers, camera, binoculars , etc.)
